The DriveSpin range of rotary actuators by Spinea is now extended with the new DSF variant. The F stands for “flat”, and indicates that this is a highly compact, flat actuator series. In fact, the new series offers the shortest axial length ever for a servomotor with an integrated zero-backlash reduction gear. Despite their low mass and compact form factor, these actuators deliver a high torque range of 12 to 85 Nm. 

At the end of last century, two young Slovak engineers developed a high-precision reduction gearbox for use in robotics and similar applications. Some 25 years later, having grown into a solid, innovative business with multiple production sites, Spinea has further developed the special reduction gearing, and integrated it into a line of specialised actuators and rotary modules. 

Actuators

Spinea’s range of actuators is labelled DriveSpin (DS), which today comprises four separate series based on the physical design: standard, hollow shaft, modular and the new “flat”. Each variant comprises an optimized servomotor combined with the TwinSpin reduction gear. The result is an ideal solution for highly dynamic applications that require a relatively high torque, with restricted space for the actuator. Designed specifically for such requirements, these servomotors have zero backlash and incorporate an additional radial-axial output bearing. 

New: the flat variant

Spinea has developed the DSF series specifically for applications with exceptional space limitations. This DriveSpin Flat variant has an extremely short axial length, thanks to the integrated reduction gear and the axis-perpendicular positioning of the electrical connections. The servomotors in this compact and lightweight series deliver a high torque density of 12 to 85 Nm. 

Other key features of the series are the high torsional stiffness, positioning accuracy and repeatability, as well as the high load capacity of the radial-axial output bearing. Finally, the DriveSpin Flat can be combined with various feedback systems to fulfil all possible customer requirements. 

Applications

The feature-rich DSF series is ideal for use in robotics (6-axis robots, gantry robots and manipulators), machine tools (CNC, lathes, grinding), forming machines (brake, press) and medical equipment. The DSF series is also highly suitable for aerospace, flight simulators, defence, semiconductor manufacturing, and radar and monitoring systems. In the area of general mechanical engineering, the extra radial-axial output bearing of the DriveSpin means the actuator can also function as a primary pivot point. This saves on parts, and reduces the total cost of ownership.
