Compact size, quick movement and ease of installation – the new linear actuator of JVL

Compact size, quick movement and ease of installation – these were the key goals for continued development of the stepper motors of JVL. In a special new variant, the NEMA34 motor is integrated with a ball screw spindle, enabling machine builders to deliver precise linear movement in the smallest of spaces. There are also fewer cables to connect. Moreover, this new linear actuator has an integrated controller and extensive features for connectivity to industrial bus systems.

The full range of JVL linear stepper motors comprises six sizes from 20 to 86 mm square, conforming to NEMA08 through NEMA34. These combined motor-actuator units are available with travel resolutions ranging from 0.001524 to 0.127 mm/rev, and are especially suitable for achieving extremely quick and precise linear movement.

NEMA34 with ball screw spindle

This new version combines the MIL34 motor variant (with NEMA34 mounting face) with a ball screw spindle. Because the motor and spindle are fully integrated, not only does this create a highly compact drive unit; it also greatly simplifies the cabling, saving assembly time and space for the OEM. Moreover, the use of a ball screw spindle brings friction to a minimum, practically eliminating heat development, and enabling maximum speed to be reached in the shortest time. A unique combination in the world of drive technology!

The linear actuator can be integrated into a complete drive system, but can also be used as a standalone unit. The integrated controller enables the actuator to be programmed entirely according to requirements. The eight input/output channels provide connectivity between the actuator and various other components.

Properties

This variant of the MIL34 with ball screw spindle is offered in three standard stroke lengths, and delivers a maximum torque of 11 Nm. In addition, it can be combined with various spindle and nut options, such that a movement precision as high as ±10 microns can be achieved. 

These actuators are ideal for applications in any sector or industry where high-speed and high-precision linear movement is required. Typical applications are in semiconductor manufacturing, food industry, XY tables, pick and place applications, positioning tasks, mechanical and acoustic measurements and machines with multiple axes.

Ready for Industry 4.0

Last but not least, these linear actuators - depending on model – are available with a variety of interfaces that include Ethernet IP, Modbus, PROFINET, Sercos III, Powerlink, PROFIBUS and CANopen. This means the components are fully prepared for integration in Industry 4.0 (“Smart Factory”).
