The optimal solution for (smaller) transport systems

Drives for (smaller) transport systems are crucial for the reliable operation of a wide range of processes. Examples include the packaging industry and assembly. Oriental Motor developed the CVK5xx-SC series of stepper motors specifically for this application, which in the new version feature an optimised driver package. This allows these motors to run at adjustable speeds and stop at a defined position regardless of the load.

The abbreviation SC in the name of the CVK5xx-SC stepper motors stands for: Speed Control. This means that this combination of the 5-phase stepper motor, driver and programmable control provides a simple but optimal solution for (smaller) transport systems. These are used, for example, in packaging machines, labelling systems, conveyor belts, index tables and assembly processes.

With the various settings that can be made via the driver, the stepper motors cover a wide range of applications. For example, the speed can be set between 0.02 and 600 rpm, and the acceleration and deceleration times as well as the current can be precisely adjusted to the specific application. Furthermore, the on/off switch can also be controlled via the driver in the context of a forward or reverse movement.

This simple configuration offers users numerous advantages. For example, no pulse generator is required, there is a choice of two speeds in a single process, and the motor also delivers torque when stationary. Its compact design also makes it ideal for use in applications where there is little (installation) space available.

High accuracy

Finally, motor specialist Oriental Motors states that the repeat accuracy of the stop position has been improved with this new driver, making processes even easier to control. For example, when the motor uses input from a sensor for starting and stopping. With conventional AC and DC motors, the place where the motor stops is highly dependent on the load, but with the CVK5xx-SC, the stop position is always exactly the same. This is particularly important in labelling systems.

The 5-phase, 24 VDC stepper motors are available in NEMA 28, 42 and 60 mm sizes with corresponding holding torques of 0.091, 0.5 and 2.1 Nm.
