This year, 42 teams took part in the renowned Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Of all these teams, only 17 finished, with the Belgian team came in third. This in itself is a top achievement, but the Punch Powertrain Solar Team was also voted winner of the CSIRO Technical Innovation Award!
The team’s motto was “Inspiring Innovation”. “We are constantly on the lookout for the latest technologies and solutions to make our car as efficient as possible. We are therefore very proud to say that our innovative steering system has won us the CSIRO Technical Innovation Award. By using cables, our steering system is more efficient and the innovative Geneva system also allows us to sail on the wind. The body of the car is rotated relative to the road, resulting in much lower energy consumption at high wind speeds. ‘This award was not easy to win, especially with strong competition from all over the world. With this prize, we are putting Belgium on the world map as a technological pioneer!’
