At Rotero, we offer a comprehensive selection of stepper motors, ranging from open-loop solutions to closed-loop solutions (servo). Open-loop means that positioning is controlled without encoder feedback. Closed-loop means that encoder feedback is used to monitor the position and make adjustments in the event of deviations.
Stepper motors are specially designed for applications requiring precise positioning, such as in a 3D printer. They operate by energising coils to trigger an angular rotation, or step. By counting these steps, the control system knows exactly where the motor is. The speed of the motor is controlled by the frequency at which the next coil is energised, while the motor’s power depends on the current flowing through the coil. However, the current does not affect the motor’s speed or position.
At Rotero, we have stepper motor drives with AC and DC power supplies. In AC versions, 230VAC is converted in the drive to a 120VDC bus voltage. The design of the stepper motors complies with the NEMA standards. These range from NEMA 6 to NEMA 34. Additionally, our stepper motors can be fitted with high-quality gearboxes at the factory.
The features of stepper motors are that they are compact in size and can easily be equipped with an additional brake. The motors are always sold in combination with a suitable drive for optimal performance. By using an encoder, the motor’s speed, position and torque can be controlled. The Ethernet-based drives make configuration straightforward. The open-source software required for this is freely available.
Stepper motors are widely used in various industrial applications. They are particularly suitable for labelling machines, metering machines, packaging machines and sorting machines. In these sectors, they ensure precise and reliable performance. For specific applications, the motors can be equipped with optional accessories such as encoders for improved position and torque control, electromagnetic brakes for vertical applications, gearboxes for increasing the torque and reducing the speed, and linear stepper motors can be equipped with trapezoidal/ACME spindles or ball screws. Connector fittings can also be customised for bespoke applications.
