AC solenoids type WBA

  • Increasing and almost horizontal magnetic force vs. stroke characteristic, depending on the size
  • Pulling and pushing types
  • Electrical connection via bipolar terminal
  • Mounting with universal frame or angle bracket
  • Only for touch-protected installation
  • Protection class: IP00
  • Voltage type: alternating current, AC

Details

The type WBA is a model series of robust single-acting AC solenoids, which have proven themselves in practice over many decades and lend themselves to direct connection to the mains supply.

Compared to DC solenoids, AC solenoids are characterised by the following distinctive advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:

  • High dynamics during switching
  • Large stroke lengths (up to 45 mm)
  • Automatic reduction of power consumption in the end position
  • No rectifier needed

Disadvantages:

  • Limited number of switching operations per hour
  • High noise emission when reaching and remaining in the end position
  • If the armature does not reach the end position due to a mechanical defect, the winding may burn out unless it is sufficiently protected.

As direct current now dominates as the standard electrical supply for components, the applications for alternating current solenoids are limited to the demand for replacement and spare parts, and special applications where the required stroke lengths cannot be realised otherwise and noise emission is of secondary importance.

For new designs, we generally recommend the use of DC solenoids.

Sizes: 6 mm, 10 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm, 70 mm
