Oriental Motor’s range – represented in the Benelux by Rotero – has been expanded with two new drivers. These drivers are specifically designed to control AZ motors and are characterised by their extremely compact design and low weight, among other things. The so-called “mini drivers” are also suitable for all AZ drives that operate on direct current (24/48 VDC).

Oriental Motor’s AZ motors are closed-loop stepper motors with an absolute sensor. These motors are suitable for standalone use but are also frequently used as reliable drives in actuators such as linear guides and rotary tables.

The two new drivers developed by Oriental Motor are designed for communication via EtherCAT and RS-485 and stand out for their extremely compact size and low weight: the version for RS-485 communication weighs only 56 grams and measures 47x53x24 mm. This low weight is advantageous, among other things, for reducing the energy consumption of unmanned transport vehicles such as AGVs.

The compact dimensions offer the advantage that the drivers can be mounted directly on all applications. All that is required are two screws; a complete DIN rail is not necessary.
With the aid of a higher-level control system, the mini drivers can also be used for voltage monitoring as required. When the voltage drops to a preset value, the drivers trigger an alarm. This functionality is particularly valuable for battery-powered applications to prevent battery failures during operation.
Another advantage for battery-powered applications is the “Servo Emulation Mode”. This function optimises the current based on the load, which means that more current is supplied for heavy loads and less for light loads. Among other things, this benefits the service life of the battery or accumulator and thus the potential service life.
Finally, the wide power supply range is also ideal for these applications. In concrete figures, the voltage range at 24 VDC is 20-32 VDC; at 48 VDC, it is 40-55 VDC. A true all-rounder.
